Authorities Establish Public-Private Joint Response System for New Voice Phishing Scam
Over 350 Financial Headquarters and Approximately 17,000 Branches Participate
The financial authorities announced on the 13th that, ahead of the summer vacation season, they have disseminated anticipated voice phishing cases and countermeasures to the entire financial sector through a public-private joint response system, taking measures to prevent financial consumers from suffering damages.
The public-private joint response system is a system that enables rapid collection and dissemination of new fraud methods and active response, covering 352 headquarters and 17,934 branches of financial companies belonging to 10 financial sectors.
Additionally, the financial authorities have activated real-time communication channels by designating dedicated contact points to facilitate smooth two-way communication between associations and central organizations.
In particular, the authorities are focusing on preventing consumer damage by continuously issuing consumer alerts and disseminating information to branches regarding new cases such as the recently prevalent wedding invitation and first birthday party impersonation voice phishing, impersonation of financial companies’ YouTube and KakaoTalk channels, and voice phishing disguised as courier companies or government policies.

An official from the authorities stated, “Going forward, we will strengthen the collection of new fraud information through a rapid response system and comprehensively consider the content of fraud methods, urgency of the cases, and scale of damages to promptly disseminate information by type, jointly respond within the financial sector, and establish comprehensive measures to tackle new frauds, taking the lead in eradicating voice phishing.”
