In her very first solo exhibition, artist Yang Ji-young often reflects on what painting means. Most people, when something memorable happens, tell their friends or take photos to keep the memory. However, the artist prefers to paint and keep the paintings, recalling those moments by looking at the completed works.
For the artist, painting is like a diary. It is like a memoir that preserves memorable scenes and emotions. The process of condensing thoughts and feelings into a single painting is a time of constant communication with herself, and it is the most precious time of her day. What she mainly expresses is the emotion felt by the human Yang Ji-young herself.
She also believes that the forms made up of colors, lines, and dots in the paintings represent her psychology. Whether happy or sad, the act of creating itself is a process of release that brings her peace.
At the exhibition, Yang said, "I think the act of art, which leaves an impression on the viewer and brings peace to the creator, is truly valuable," adding, "I want to live a life accompanied by works that leave a deep impression on me and on someone else."
