"Strong Condemnation of North Korea's ICBM Launch" US-ROK-Japan Senior Nuclear Envoys Hold Phone Talks
"Strengthening Trilateral Cooperation for International Community Response"
Kim Gun, Head of the Korean Peninsula Peace Negotiation Headquarters, held a trilateral phone consultation on the 12th with Sung Kim, U.S. Special Representative for North Korea, and Takehiro Funakoshi, Japan's Chief Representative for North Korean Nuclear Issues, to discuss response measures to North Korea's long-range ballistic missile launch.
On that day, the three senior representatives strongly condemned North Korea for carrying out a long-range ballistic missile launch into the East Sea during normal flight operations by the South Korea-U.S. alliance in international waters.
They also stated that North Korea's military provocations are "serious provocations threatening peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula and in the international community, and a grave violation of UN Security Council resolutions that cannot be justified under any circumstances."
The three agreed to strongly respond to North Korea's provocations based on the firm South Korea-U.S. combined defense posture and South Korea-U.S.-Japan security cooperation.
Furthermore, they decided to continue strengthening close communication and cooperation among the three countries to lead the international community's stronger response to North Korea's illegal nuclear missile development.
