"The Hottest Earth in 120,000 Years... It's Just the Beginning"
US Meteorologist: "El Nino Strengthening... Average Temperatures Will Continue to Break Records"
Analysis shows that this year's global temperature is the highest in 120,000 years.
On the 8th (local time), Jeff Baradell, chief meteorologist at US broadcaster WFLA, wrote in the American media outlet The Hill, "We are experiencing the hottest weather in 120,000 years. This is just the beginning."

The recently started El Ni?o (a phenomenon where sea surface temperatures in the eastern equatorial Pacific Ocean rise abnormally) is expected to intensify and further increase the Earth's temperature. It is forecasted that this summer the Earth will continue to break heat records.
From the 3rd to the 5th, the global average temperature exceeded 17 degrees Celsius, setting record highs for three consecutive days. This is due to global warming caused by greenhouse gas emissions and the influence of El Ni?o.
According to Baradell, temperatures over the past decade have been the highest since the 1800s when global temperatures began to be measured. Scientists, based on indirect indicators such as tree rings, ice cores, and ocean sediments, have determined that since the last Ice Age ended 20,000 years ago, the current global average temperature is the highest. Baradell stated that humanity is experiencing the hottest weather since the interglacial period about 125,000 years ago (a relatively warm period between Ice Ages). At that time, the global average temperature was estimated to be about 1 degree Celsius higher than now, and sea levels were approximately 30 feet (about 9 meters) higher.
Baradell expressed concern that since the Industrial Revolution, the Earth's temperature has risen rapidly at an unprecedented rate in 20,000 years. After the last Ice Age ended, it took 10,000 years for the global average temperature to rise by 3 degrees Celsius, but due to fossil fuel use and greenhouse gas emissions, the global average temperature has risen by 3 degrees Celsius in just the past 200 years.

Baradell emphasized, "If greenhouse gas emissions continue as they are now, warming will become much more severe. We know exactly what the problem is and how to fix it. Our future depends on paying attention to what is needed and getting serious quickly."
