Gyeongnam Governor Park Wan-su Urges Acceleration of Space Aviation Agency Special Act Passage
Request for 947.8 Billion KRW Support Related to National Fund Projects
On the 6th, Gyeongsangnam-do urged the prompt passage of the Special Act on the Space Aviation Agency at the People Power Party-Busan·Gyeongnam Budget Policy Council held at Busan City Hall.
According to Gyeongnam Province, the council was attended by the central party leadership including Yoon Jae-ok, floor leader of the People Power Party, Park Dae-chul, chairman of the Policy Committee, Song Eon-seok, secretary of the Budget and Accounts Committee, Jang Dong-hyuk, floor spokesperson, and Jeong Hee-yong, chief secretary to the floor leader.
Also present were Jeong Jeom-sik, chairman of the Gyeongnam Provincial Party Committee, Jeon Bong-min, acting chairman of the Busan City Party Committee, as well as Budget and Accounts Committee members Lee Dal-gon, Seo Il-jun, Baek Jong-heon, and Ahn Byung-gil.

Gyeongnam Province explained the current administrative issues and requested interest and support for nine major projects.
The key issues include ▲enactment of the Special Act on the Space Aviation Agency ▲development project for innovative manufacturing technology of small modular reactor (SMR) foundry ▲construction of the South Coast Island Highway ▲designation of a demand-based system semiconductor specialized complex in Gyeongnam ▲upgrade of Geoga-daero (Local Road No. 58) to an expressway ▲prompt enactment of the South Coast Tourism Promotion Special Act ▲name change of the port corporation and equal recommendation rights for port committee members by local governments ▲and creation of the Korea-ASEAN National Garden.
Additionally, regarding securing next year’s national budget, the province sought support amounting to 947.8 billion KRW for 24 key national budget projects.
The province plans to focus on ▲development of hybrid engine systems applying condition-based maintenance (CBM+) technology for each weapon system ▲development of manufacturing technology for SMR core equipment applying high-temperature isostatic pressing powder metallurgy (PM-HIP) technology ▲and the space industry cluster creation project.
Other projects include ▲construction of the Southern Inland Railway ▲construction of the Hamyang-Ulsan Expressway ▲establishment of the New Port Business Center ▲creation of the Gyeongnam Content Industry Town ▲and the Southern Region Wide-area Tourism Development Project.

View original imageGovernor Park Wan-su said, “The government aims to establish the Space Aviation Agency within this year to realize South Korea’s space economy vision, but the review of the special act for the establishment of the Space Aviation Agency is being delayed in the National Assembly,” adding, “We ask for united efforts so that the special act can be promptly passed in the National Assembly and the Space Aviation Agency can be launched in Sacheon, Gyeongnam.”
He emphasized, “Sacheon will be developed as a space aviation complex city performing multifaceted functions such as industry, research, and international exchange in the space development field, with residential conditions,” and “a dedicated organization for the creation of the space aviation complex city, the Space Aviation Complex City Promotion Team, must be established.”
To the People Power Party leadership, he said, “The projects proposed today are essential for actively promoting future industries such as nuclear power, defense, and aerospace, and for developing tourism in the South Coast region,” and “we hope for active support from the People Power Party and the government so that these projects are reflected in the government budget during the process of advancing provincial administration and securing national funds.”
Following securing a record-high national budget of 8.7157 trillion KRW this year, Gyeongnam Province aims to secure 9.6 trillion KRW next year, a 10% increase from this year.

The province plans to respond strategically and step-by-step to the government and National Assembly, establish an organic cooperation system with local lawmakers and city/county governments, and make every effort to secure budgets for key national projects.
