World Premiere on the 4th of Next Month
"Allows Deep and Broad Reflection Depending on the Viewer’s Perception"
Director Jung Yumi's film "The Waves" will be screened at the Locarno Film Festival, which opens on the 2nd of next month. According to the production company Matchcut on the 6th, it has been invited to the short film competition section "Pardi di domani." The world premiere is scheduled for the 4th of next month. This is the first time Korean animation has been introduced at the Locarno Film Festival.
The 76th Locarno Film Festival, held in Switzerland, is a film festival that pursues innovative and subversive genre inventions. "The Waves," which meets these criteria, is an 8-minute animation supported by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art. It tells the story of human life through the metaphor of "waves." Various people, from children to the elderly, appear on the beach, showing a slice of life within the rhythm of the waves before disappearing. Matchcut described it as "a work that stands out for its detailed pencil drawing technique and restrained expression," adding that "it allows for deep and broad contemplation depending on the viewer's interpretation."
