On the 6th, President Yoon Suk-yeol appointed Lee Hyung-il, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Economy and Finance, as the new Commissioner of the Korea National Statistical Office.
Lee Hyung-il, the new Commissioner, is recognized as an expert in macroeconomics and policy, and has been selected three times as a "boss to emulate" by Ministry of Economy and Finance employees.
Born in 1971, Lee graduated from Gyeongsang High School in Daegu and earned a degree in Economics from Seoul National University. He obtained his Ph.D. in Economics from Texas A&M University in the United States.
He entered public service by passing the 36th Administrative Examination and has held positions such as Director of the Comprehensive Policy Division, Director of the Economic Analysis Division, Director of the Financial Market Division at the Ministry of Economy and Finance, took a leave of absence to work at the IBRD (International Bank for Reconstruction and Development) in the U.S., and served as Senior Administrative Officer at the Office of the President’s Economic Policy Secretariat. He later served as Director General of the Economic Policy Bureau and Deputy Minister at the Ministry of Economy and Finance.
