'Chronic Congestion' Seoul Dongbu Expressway Underground... Private Investment Section from Cheongdam-dong to Seokgwan-dong Also Passes Review
On the 6th, Seoul City announced that it held an urban planning committee meeting the previous day and approved a revised urban planning facility decision for the Dongbu Expressway underground road, a 10.4km section from Cheongdam-dong (Cheongdam IC) in Gangnam-gu to Seokgwan-dong (Wolreung IC) in Seongbuk-gu, which is being carried out as a private investment project.
The Dongbu Expressway underground road project aims to improve traffic conditions on the Dongbu Expressway, where frequent congestion occurs, by constructing a deep underground tunnel. At this urban planning committee meeting, the decision for the 10.4km private investment project section of the underground road passing under the Jungnangcheon Stream and the Han River was reviewed and approved. Construction is scheduled to begin in the second half of this year, with the goal of opening simultaneously in 2028 along with the publicly funded section (Yeongdong-daero underground section, L=2.89km).
