Increase 'Dosi Teotbat' Participants to 3 Million... Achieving Carbon Neutrality in Urban Areas
The 3rd Comprehensive Plan for the Promotion and Support of Urban Agriculture (2023~2027)
The government has decided to increase the number of urban garden participants to 3 million by 2027 to achieve carbon neutrality in city centers.
On the 6th, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs announced the "3rd Comprehensive Plan for the Promotion and Support of Urban Agriculture (2023-2027)" containing these details.
Over the next five years, the ministry will focus on ▲carbon neutrality and ecological environment preservation ▲smart urban agriculture ▲expansion of urban agriculture in daily life ▲and enhancement of coexistence and cooperation.
First, to expand spaces for practicing carbon neutrality, customized gardens will be created and ecological education provided by utilizing living areas and spaces within buildings in urban centers for carbon neutrality practices and ecological environment preservation. Additionally, resource-recycling cultivation technologies such as composting garden byproducts and coffee grounds will be commercialized and disseminated to local governments and the private sector. Through this, the goal is to increase the number of urban garden participants from 1,956,000 as of last year to 3 million by 2027.
Reflecting the recent interest in companion plants, a series of urban agriculture-related information will be provided, from plant recommendations tailored to individual preferences to purchase, and digital learning tools and content using technologies such as the Internet of Things will be distributed focusing on future generations to induce a change in perception of agriculture.
Furthermore, customized educational programs by life cycle will be prepared so that various age groups can enjoy urban agriculture, and community programs will be operated for workplace groups, apartment residents, and seniors to strengthen community participation and bonds.
Leveraging the characteristics of urban agriculture linked to climate change and environmental values, the ministry will also promote the discovery and dissemination of urban agriculture models that can be utilized for ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) management. Cooperation with agriculture and rural areas will be strengthened by using urban agriculture activities as a preliminary step for returning to farming or rural living.
