Environmental Cleanup Activities Held to Mark Opening on the 5th
"Come to the clean Seonyudo Beach for your 2023 summer vacation."
Gunsan City announced on the 5th that it conducted an environmental cleanup activity around Seonyudo Beach together with residents ahead of the beach's opening.
To provide a pleasant environment for tourists visiting Seonyudo during the summer vacation season, the city cleaned up the areas around the beach, including the parking lots and commercial districts of Seonyu 2-gu and Seonyu 3-gu, which are mainly used by visitors. About 50 residents, local merchants, and city employees participated in weeding and thoroughly removed marine debris, empty bottles, and waste paper.

Seonyudo Beach will operate for 40 days from the 7th of this month until the 15th of next month. With the recovery from COVID-19 leading to an expected surge in beach visitors, the city held departmental inspection meetings focusing on beach safety management. Currently, repairs to facilities for accident prevention have been completed, and preparations to welcome vacationers are finished.
In particular, anticipating the discharge of contaminated water from Fukushima, seawater samples were collected and tested before the opening, with no radiation detected. Going forward, the city plans to conduct weekly radiation contamination analyses if Fukushima contaminated water is discharged, ensuring thorough management so visitors can use the beach with peace of mind.
Jang Young-jae, Director of the Economic and Port Innovation Bureau, said, "Above all, it was very meaningful to clean the area around the beach together with residents and complete preparations to welcome tourists," adding, "We will do our best to prepare for the opening so that visitors to Seonyudo Beach experience no inconvenience."
