Catholic University Student and Staff International Volunteer Group Provides Education and Cultural Service in Laos
Catholic University announced on the 4th that it has dispatched an international volunteer group composed of students and faculty members to Vientiane, Laos.
Since 1997, Catholic University has been operating an international volunteer group, sending about 1,200 students and faculty members to developing countries such as Papua New Guinea, the Philippines, Uzbekistan, Mongolia, and Cambodia. The program was temporarily suspended for the past three years due to COVID-19 but has resumed this year.
The 2023 academic year Catholic University international volunteer group consists of a total of 56 students and faculty members. They plan to conduct volunteer activities for 9 nights and 11 days until the 12th at Somsawan Elementary School on the outskirts of Vientiane, Laos.
They will engage in improving educational environments, including constructing new restrooms at the elementary school and creating murals. They will also provide educational volunteer services teaching health, hygiene, English, and math to about 500 local elementary students, as well as cultural exchange volunteer activities such as Taekwondo and K-pop.

Seo Han-seok, head of the Catholic University international volunteer group, said, "I hope students can experience the value of social service and deepen their understanding of diverse cultures and societies," adding, "We plan to continue promoting various domestic and international volunteer activities so that they can grow into global leaders with a spirit of service."
