Hyosung Heavy Industries Partners with Gyeongnam Province to Foster SMR... "As a Manufacturing Hub"
Creating Synergy with Renewable Energy Technologies
SMR Linked to Seawater Desalination and Hydrogen Production
Hyosung Heavy Industries is participating in a project to develop Gyeongsangnam-do as a global manufacturing hub for next-generation nuclear power plants.
On the 4th, Hyosung Heavy Industries signed a "Mutual Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for Fostering a Global Manufacturing Hub for Next-Generation Nuclear Power Plants" with Gyeongsangnam-do, the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute, the Korea Nuclear Industry Association, and four other companies at the Gyeongsangnam-do provincial government conference room. The goal is to apply next-generation Small Modular Reactor (SMR) technology to land, ships, and offshore plants. Through this MOU, the parties will collaborate on the development, demonstration, and joint research of next-generation nuclear power plant equipment technology.
Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) have recently attracted attention as a next-generation energy source capable of achieving carbon neutrality goals and securing stable energy supply. When used together with renewable energy, SMRs can enhance power supply stability, which is expected to create synergy with Hyosung Heavy Industries' renewable energy technologies.
An Seong-hoon, Vice President of Hyosung Heavy Industries, attended the event and said, "Hyosung Heavy Industries has been part of Korea's nuclear industry since 1982, when it delivered the country's first 345kV ultra-high voltage generator to the Kori Nuclear Power Plant. We will strive to achieve technological innovation in next-generation Small Modular Reactors together with Gyeongsangnam-do through this MOU."
