Since July last year, the top priorities of the 8th elected administration, which started anew with the goal of “A New Mapo, A Better Mapo,” have been “resolving civil complaints” and “communication.”
Accordingly, in November last year, the district established an “Integrated Civil Complaint Board” to consolidate complaints that were previously scattered across multiple channels such as the Seoul Metropolitan Government’s Response Center, the National Petition System, and the Mapo-gu website, allowing for a comprehensive view of complaint reception and processing status.
Additionally, the district created the “365 Civil Communication Phone,” a service that allows residents, including those who have difficulty using the internet such as people with disabilities or the elderly, to easily communicate their requests to the district via text messages.
By the end of May, a total of 3,500 various complaints had been received and all processed through the Civil Communication Phone, which provides quick and simple responses via text within three days.
In particular, a complaint received through the Civil Communication Phone in February requesting crackdowns on illegal advertisements became the starting point for the district to form a special crackdown team with the Mapo Police Station, leading to a large-scale crackdown on illegal advertisements in the Gongdeok-dong area. The Seongmisan development project, which had been a source of conflict for over two years, also reached a smooth agreement through the Civil Communication Phone, transforming into a beloved “Hwangtotgil” (Red Clay Road) creation project for residents.
Including about 170 complaints received via phone calls or visits to the Policy Communication Office, a total of approximately 174,000 complaints were received and processed by Mapo-gu over the past 10 months.
The district stated that for urgent or highly impactful complaints, it will continue to seek satisfactory solutions for residents by linking with the “On-Site District Office Director’s Office.”
On the 3rd, the district planned a special communication event to reflect on the past year’s journey.
Mayor Park Gang-su first held a “Communication Meeting” with executives from Mapo-gu affiliated organizations including Mapo-gu Facilities Management Corporation, Mapo Cultural Foundation, Mapo Welfare Foundation, and Mapo Talent Development Scholarship Foundation to evaluate the year and strengthen cooperation for smooth district administration.
In the afternoon, a commemorative ceremony with all employees was held to encourage staff who had done their best in district administration over the past year and to share the future direction of the district administration.

He also visited Hongdae Red Road to explore ways to maintain a clean street environment, including cleaning up abandoned trash. Lastly, he visited Ahyeon Market to meet and communicate with merchants working hard amid difficult economic conditions.
The district plans to look back on the past through a meaningful day of “communication with institutions,” “communication with employees,” and “communication with residents,” which is fundamental to administration, and to vigorously move forward to create a better Mapo.
Mayor Park Gang-su said, “I would like to thank all Mapo-gu employees who have quietly pushed through difficult tasks over the past year and all Mapo residents who have trusted and generously supported us.” He added, “Although we have worked tirelessly for a year, there are still many challenges to solve and many tasks to take on to move forward.”
