This competition emphasizes responding to global technological and industrial changes by utilizing generative AI technologies such as ChatGPT and aims to elevate the competitiveness of tourism industry services to the next level.
Participants can register their ideas and form teams online by the 20th of this month, then develop and submit a Minimum Viable Product (MVP) by August 9th. Teams selected through the first round will give final presentations and undergo evaluations by judges at an offline event on August 30th.
Eligibility is open not only to AI technologists but also to anyone with experience and expertise in the tourism sector or new ideas utilizing generative AI. Individuals can participate and freely form teams on the online platform during the registration period.
This competition is supported by ‘Primer,’ Korea’s first accelerator, which provides the online hackathon platform and judging support. Awards will be given to a total of eight teams: one grand prize, one excellence award, two outstanding awards, and four encouragement awards. Each winning team will receive the Korea Tourism Organization President’s Award and prize money totaling 15 million KRW. Detailed information can be found on the hackathon website.

Jo Yun-mi, head of the Tourism Big Data Strategy Team at the Korea Tourism Organization, said, “The industrial environment is rapidly changing with AI technology being quickly applied in the tourism sector, and business innovation using this technology continues. We expect that through this hackathon, technologists and tourism experts from various fields will collaborate to discover new ideas and achieve innovation in tourism services.”
