Jeju Coast Guard Issues 'Coastal Risk Forecast Advisory' Until Next Month

Jeju Maritime Police Station is making every effort to prevent safety accidents, as coastal accidents in the jurisdiction are most frequent in July and August.

Jeju Maritime Police announced on the 3rd that it will issue a coastal accident risk forecast system "advisory" until the 31st of next month.

They also requested the installation of safety facilities in safety blind spots and hidden water play spots where no safety facilities are currently installed.

Some coastal beaches in the province have become popular through word of mouth, attracting people to so-called "hidden spots only I know" or "water play spots" to take "life shots."

Many of these hidden water play spots lack safety personnel or safety management facilities, exposing them to the risk of coastal accidents, and it is expected that coastal accidents will increase during the summer season.

The coastal safety accident risk forecast system is a system that, according to the "Act on the Prevention of Coastal Accidents," informs the public in advance of risks by dividing them into stages of "interest," "advisory," and "warning" when there is a concern or occurrence of repeated or continuous safety accidents due to bad weather or natural disasters in coastal waters during specific periods, thereby preventing accidents.

In the past three years, July to August is a period requiring special caution with 40 coastal accidents and 9 deaths in Jeju jurisdiction. On the 29th of last month, Jeju Maritime Police also rescued two people drifting on paddleboards at Sehwa Beach.

A Jeju Maritime Police official said, "Please follow summer water play safety rules carefully and consider the weather to enjoy safe water activities," adding, "We will make every effort to prevent safety accidents so that the public can safely engage in coastal activities during the summer."
