"Will Hang Banner with Your Photo" - 40s Man Given Probation for Threatening Wife's Affair Partner
Daegu District Court, "Even Considering the Motive, the Nature of the Crime Is Not Good"
A 40-year-old academy director who threatened a woman after discovering that the woman, a student at her academy, had an affair with her husband was sentenced to probation.
According to a report by Yonhap News on the 1st, the Daegu District Court Criminal Division 12 (Chief Judge Eo Jae-won) announced that it sentenced A (45), who was charged with threatening a woman involved in an affair with her husband (violation of the Act on the Aggravated Punishment, etc. of Specific Crimes, among others), to one year in prison with two years of probation.
A was tried on charges of threatening B, a student at her academy, six times via a mobile messenger application last August, sending messages such as "Just die right now. If you stay alive, I will kill you," and "I won't leave your children alone," out of anger over B’s affair with her husband.
Additionally, A posted on her academy’s social networking service (SNS) three times, including photos of B and B’s family along with posts claiming that B had an affair with her husband. After B filed a complaint against her with the police, A also sent two text messages indicating her intention to produce and hang a banner containing B’s photos as an act of retaliation.

The court explained the sentencing, stating, "Although the defendant had a somewhat understandable motive for committing the crime, the nature of the offense is not good, and the victim likely experienced significant mental distress and anxiety." The court added, "Considering that the defendant admitted to all the charges and committed the crime impulsively due to uncontrolled emotions, the sentence was determined comprehensively."
