Civic Group Files Injunction to Ban Screening of Park Won-soon Documentary... "Clear Secondary Harm"
46 Organizations Including Korean Sexual Violence Counseling Center Also 'Oppose'
A civic group has filed a provisional injunction to ban the screening of a documentary defending the late Park Won-soon, former Mayor of Seoul.
The civic group Seomin Minsaeng Countermeasure Committee announced on the 30th that it has filed a provisional injunction application with the Seoul Southern District Court against 'People Who Believe in Park Won-soon,' who led the production of the documentary 'First Plea' about the death of former Mayor Park, and the director Kim Dae-hyun.

View original image'First Plea' is a documentary film produced ahead of the third anniversary of former Mayor Park's death, featuring Kim Joo-myung, former Secretary to the Mayor of Seoul and a close aide of Park, who unilaterally denies the victim's testimony. It is scheduled to be released in August.
The Seomin Minsaeng Countermeasure Committee explained the reason for the injunction application, stating, "If the documentary is screened, it will cause secondary harm not only to the victims who were sexually harassed by former Mayor Park Won-soon but also to many citizens who have experienced sexual harassment in the workplace."
Subsequently, 46 organizations including the Korea Sexual Violence Counseling Center also called for the cancellation of the release, calling it a "clear secondary harm."

Meanwhile, the National Human Rights Commission of Korea recognized most of former Mayor Park's sexual harassment acts as factual in 2021. In November last year, the Seoul Administrative Court ruled that the Human Rights Commission's recognition of Park's sexual harassment was appropriate, and the family of former Mayor Park is currently appealing related lawsuits.
