National Heatwave Crisis Alert Raised to 'Warning' Level... One Day Earlier Than Last Year
One Day Earlier Than July 2 Last Year
Emphasis on Heatwave Vulnerable Sector Management Measures
The Ministry of the Interior and Safety (MOIS) raised the heatwave crisis alert level from 'Caution' to 'Warning' at 11:30 a.m. on the 1st.
MOIS explained that with heatwave warnings issued in 128 out of 180 regions nationwide (71%) and the heat expected to continue until Monday the 3rd, the heatwave crisis alert level was elevated. The timing of this alert level increase is one day earlier than on July 2nd last year.
The heatwave crisis alert levels rise in the order of Interest, Caution, Warning, and Serious. MOIS instructed related ministries and local governments to strengthen management measures for the three major vulnerable groups to heatwaves: socially vulnerable groups, outdoor workers at construction sites, and elderly farmers.
Additionally, to minimize casualties and property damage caused by the heatwave, they emphasized the need to monitor damage situations in real time and maintain thorough response readiness. In particular, as the heatwave continues, there are concerns about casualties among vulnerable groups such as elderly living alone, homeless people, and residents of small rooms, so related ministries and local governments were urged to respond actively.

Kim Seong-ho, Director of the Disaster and Safety Management Headquarters at MOIS, said, "As the heatwave is expected to continue for the time being, the government will do its best to respond," adding, "We ask the public to actively cooperate by refraining from outdoor activities during the hottest hours (10 a.m. to 4 p.m.) and drinking water frequently, so that damage caused by the heatwave can be minimized by actively practicing these behavioral guidelines."
