Hyunjoon Lee, President of the Cement Association, "Accelerating Greenhouse Gas Reduction and Low-Carbon Raw Material R&D"
The 2nd "Cement Day" Event Held
On the occasion of 'Cement Day,' industry stakeholders gathered on the 30th to discuss the future direction of the cement industry.
The Korea Cement Association held the 2nd Cement Day event on the afternoon of the same day at the Federation of Korean Industries Conference Center in Yeouido, Seoul, with about 200 attendees including cement industry officials and lawmakers Lee Cheol-gyu and Yoo Sang-beom.
Lee Hyun-jun, Chairman of the Korea Cement Association and CEO of Ssangyong C&E, stated in his commemorative speech, "Despite difficult business conditions, we have continued large-scale investments to improve the environment and expand the recycling of circular resources, but we still need to reduce an additional total of 18 million tons of greenhouse gases, including 4 million tons by 2030 and 14 million tons by 2050," adding, "Considering the nature of the industry, this is a very challenging goal."
Chairman Lee identified achieving carbon neutrality and proactively responding to strengthened environmental regulations as top priorities, emphasizing, "We must accelerate research and development on low-carbon raw materials and devote all efforts to continuously minimizing environmental impact."
He also urged the spirit of 'Eungbyeon Changsin (應變創新),' meaning 'responding ahead of change and proactively pioneering new paths.'
At the event, association member companies signed a joint declaration for Cement Day. Additionally, individuals who contributed to the development of the cement industry were awarded the Prime Minister's Commendation (1 person) and the Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Award (8 people), among others.
