Gyeonggi-do Restores 95% of Landslides Last Year with 24.1 Billion Won Investment
Gyeonggi Province invested 24.1 billion KRW in the first half of this year to restore 95% of the landslides that occurred last year.
On the 30th, Gyeonggi Province announced that it had completed 118 out of 123 landslide cases, accounting for 95%, by the end of June. The province plans to complete all landslide restoration projects by the end of July.
Last year, the number of landslide damages in Gyeonggi Province was 123 cases, covering an area of 93 hectares, of which 88 hectares occurred during the heavy rainfall from August 8 to 11.
To restore the function of the damaged forest and prevent recurrence, Gyeonggi Province established a restoration plan in September last year, proceeded with preliminary procedures such as detailed design, and started construction after the thaw period in March this year.
For the five sites where construction was delayed, major processes such as the installation of check dams were completed by the end of June.
In addition to the landslide restoration projects, Gyeonggi Province is installing 30 check dams to prevent landslide damage, carrying out 14 km of stream conservation (a project to reduce the flow velocity of valley water and prevent soil erosion), and 12 hectares of mountain reforestation (planting trees on barren mountains). Safety inspections and repair works are also being conducted on 422 existing erosion control facilities.
