Highly Perceptible Ideas Proposing Big Data Analysis to Be Reflected in Actual Policies
Gwangjin-gu (Mayor Kim Kyungho) held the ‘2023 Gwangjin-gu Big Data Analysis Contest Award Ceremony’ on the 27th.
With the advent of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, ‘big data’ has established itself as a core resource. Big data refers to the vast amount of large-scale data generated in digital environments, which holds great significance as it can be analyzed to predict demand scale, preferences, and more for practical use.
Gwangjin-gu aimed to foster a culture of discovering and proposing highly perceptible policy ideas based on big data analyzed by citizens in various fields, while reflecting these ideas to solve urban problems and improve existing policies.
Accordingly, for the first time this year, Gwangjin-gu held the ‘2023 Gwangjin-gu Big Data Analysis Contest’ on all topics related to urban issues, conducting the open call from March through May.
As a result, a total of six teams were honored with awards: ▲Grand Prize (1 team, 3 million KRW) ▲Excellence Awards (2 teams, 1 million KRW each) ▲Merit Awards (3 teams, 300,000 KRW each).
On the day of the ceremony, Deputy Mayor Baek Ilheon presented awards to the six participating teams and engaged in discussions after listening to their big data analyses.
The Grand Prize was awarded to the Cheonga team for their ‘Data-Based Response Plan to Illegal Parking in Gwangjin-gu.’ The Cheonga team attracted the judges’ attention by analyzing illegal parking hotspots separately for daytime and nighttime, and specifically proposing the designation of essential parking zones and optimization of enforcement routes.
Following them, the Yonsei-GPT team, which analyzed the volume and characteristics of illegal parking occurrences at the regional level and proposed focused enforcement times, and the Jujeongcha Wangguk team, which suggested measures to increase parking lots in areas with parking shortages by assessing parking lot utilization and improving user convenience, received Excellence Awards.
The Gwangjin Parking Division’s SunConnector team and Kim Geon team received Merit Awards. They proposed respectively ▲customized illegal parking policies for habitual illegal parking enforcement areas such as Gangbyeon Station, Children’s Grand Park, Konkuk University Station, and Gunja Station ▲linking nearby parking lots and collaborating with delivery companies to solve parking issues in shopping districts ▲new installation and distribution policies for Ddareungi bike rental stations based on predicted usage.
Kim Kyungho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, said, “We promoted this contest to listen to the voices of residents based on data, and many people participated,” adding, “We will reflect the selected big data analyses in actual policies so that residents can feel the impact.”
