DGIST Ranks 7th Worldwide in Citations per Faculty Member... 1st Harvard University, 2nd Princeton University
‘QS World University Rankings’
DGIST announced on the 28th that it ranked 7th worldwide in citations per faculty in the '2024 QS World University Rankings' and 9th overall in South Korea.
In the overall ranking, DGIST ranked 3rd among domestic science and technology institutes following KAIST, and 2nd among universities in the Daegu-Gyeongbuk region following POSTECH.
'Citations per faculty' indicates how frequently the research papers of a university's researchers are cited by other researchers, serving as a comprehensive indicator evaluating both the quantity and quality of research capabilities. Achieving 7th place worldwide in citations per faculty signifies that DGIST faculty's research capabilities are recognized globally.
The 1st place in citations per faculty was awarded to Harvard University in the United States, and 2nd place to Princeton University in the United States. Domestically, Gwangju GIST ranked 5th.
The 'QS World University Rankings' is an annual ranking published since 1994 by the UK-based university ranking organization QS (Quacquarelli Symonds), composed of nine indicators including academic and graduate reputation, student-to-faculty ratio, citations per faculty, and graduate employment outcomes.
Despite the reputation indicator accounting for nearly half (45%) of the total score, DGIST, with its small student enrollment and cumulative graduates, entering the top 10 domestically at 9th place is evaluated as DGIST, which aims to be a compact research-oriented university like the California Institute of Technology (CALTECH) in the United States, smoothly entering that trajectory.
DGIST has not been mentioned in domestic or international university rankings until now because it was excluded from evaluation due to its short history, having produced its first bachelor's graduates in 2018.
