A man in his 40s who set fire to his hospitalized mother-in-law has been brought to trial.
The Criminal Division 3 of Seoul Northern District Prosecutors' Office (Chief Prosecutor Lee Jang-woo) announced on the 22nd that Mr. A, a man in his 40s, was arrested and indicted on charges of attempted murder of a direct ascendant and arson causing injury to an inhabited building.
Mr. A is accused of attempting to kill his mother-in-law by lighting tissue paper on fire with a lighter in the hospital room where she was admitted on the 29th of last month.
It was investigated that Mr. A set the fire out of anger after his mother-in-law scolded him, asking, "Did you drink alcohol?" The mother-in-law was rescued by a family member of another patient and suffered second-degree burns on her head and other areas.
