Training Like Real Combat! Pohang City Conducts Natural Disaster Preparedness Drill... Enhancing Situation Response Capabilities
Practical Training for Rain and Typhoon Preparedness
Participation of Local Residents and Organizations
Pohang City is conducting a ‘Practical Resident Evacuation Drill for Monsoon and Typhoon Preparedness’ over two days, the 20th and 21st, targeting 29 eup, myeon, and dong districts.
This drill was designed with scenarios of an ultra-powerful typhoon and extreme rainfall, focusing on real-time response on-site and resident evacuation.
On the 20th, employees from related departments, local autonomous disaster prevention groups, and safety organizations participated in drills conducted in all eup, myeon, and dong districts in Nam-gu, including Ocheon-eup.
The drill assumed an ultra-powerful typhoon passing through the entire Nam-gu area, emphasizing preemptive measures, responses to extreme rainfall, safety announcements for residents, evacuation actions, relief and supply support, emergency recovery, and follow-up measures, aiming to strengthen response capabilities by eup, myeon, and dong.
In particular, it was recognized that customized on-site response capabilities by eup, myeon, and dong are crucial for protecting residents’ lives during disasters, and efforts were focused on enhancing situation response capabilities centered on eup, myeon, and dong heads.
The drill proceeded with a focus on eup, myeon, and dong’s own countermeasure meetings assuming typhoon arrival, safety inspections of areas vulnerable to casualties, removal of foreign substances from drainage channels and rainwater inlets in flood-prone areas, confirmation and inspection of resident evacuation shelters, and verification of vulnerable disaster groups.
Progress was shared in real-time through a prepared situation-sharing computer network, and coordination drills were conducted simultaneously to ensure that mutual progress and measures were carried out seamlessly without omissions.
Following the drill on the 20th, the city plans to conduct drills on the 21st targeting eup, myeon, and dong in Buk-gu, including Jangryang-dong. Additionally, on the 27th, a disaster prevention capability inspection meeting will be held to review the status of regional damage prediction maps and evacuation shelter maps, complete stockpiling and maintenance of flood control materials, and strengthen preparedness against heavy rain and typhoons.
On the 9th, the city conducted an extreme rainfall preparedness drill due to typhoons and heavy rain in Daesong-myeon, sharing countermeasure details with eup, myeon, and dong, and aims to maximize disaster prevention capabilities by eup, myeon, and dong through this actual drill.
