SK Siltron Partners with Taiwanese Semiconductor Company 'Nanya' for ESG Collaboration
"Semiconductor Industry's Goal to Contribute to Greenhouse Gas Reduction"
Semiconductor wafer manufacturing company SK Siltron announced on the 20th that it has signed a business agreement with Taiwan's Nanya Technology, the world's 4th largest DRAM company, to strengthen cooperation on Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) and carbon neutrality.
The two companies will share data related to carbon footprints and jointly build a standardized platform to measure greenhouse gas emissions generated during the manufacturing process. Through the platform to be established in the future, they will identify the main causes of greenhouse gas emissions and discover effective solutions to reduce the carbon footprint.
Last year, both companies received the highest grade, the 'Leadership Level,' in the climate change response and water management categories from the global sustainability assessment organization Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP). SK Siltron explained that it is significant that these two companies, which belong to the ESG management leading group, have joined hands to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

SK Siltron declared in 2021 that it will achieve net zero (carbon neutrality) by 2040. Since then, it has adopted the slogan "the wafer manufacturing company with the lowest carbon emissions" and is striving to be a low-carbon wafer manufacturer. The goal is to provide differentiated value unique to SK Siltron by supplying customers with low-carbon premium wafers.
Nanya Technology is a subsidiary of Taiwan's Formosa Plastics Group. It supplies PC, mobile, and automotive DRAM to over 800 customers worldwide. Last year, it adopted the targets required by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) and received certification for its greenhouse gas reduction goals. The target is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 25% by 2030 compared to 2020.
