Designation of 'Advanced Strategic Industry (Semiconductor Materials and Components) Specialized Complex'
Request for Support in Hosting the '2025 Asia Athletics Championships'
On the 20th, Kim Jang-ho, Mayor of Gumi City, visited the Office for Government Policy Coordination with Kim Young-sik, Member of the National Assembly (Gumi-si Eul), and met with Prime Minister Han Duck-soo to request government support for local issues and national budget projects.
During this visit, Mayor Kim actively requested ▲designation of an advanced strategic industry specialized complex (in the semiconductor materials and components sector) and ▲support for hosting the 26th Asian Athletics Championships in 2025.
In particular, Gumi City emphasized ▲its 50 years of expertise in the national industrial complex ▲the concentration of 344 companies related to semiconductor materials and components ▲complete industrial infrastructure (such as industrial water and power supply) ▲and its location just 10 km in a straight line from the planned Daegu-Gyeongbuk New Airport site, highlighting the necessity of designating the semiconductor specialized complex in Gumi City.
Furthermore, the ‘2025 26th Asian Athletics Championships’ is the largest athletics event in Asia, marking the third time it will be held in South Korea and the first time hosted by a basic local government, making it a significant event. Therefore, full national-level support was requested for its successful hosting.
In response, Prime Minister Han Duck-soo expressed special interest in Gumi City’s issues and replied, “We will actively review the matters requested by Mayor Kim Jang-ho.”
