30s Man Arrested and Indicted for Killing Lover in Geumcheon... Additional Charges of Illegal Filming Added
A man in his 30s who committed retaliatory murder against his ex-girlfriend after being reported for dating violence in Geumcheon-gu, Seoul, has been brought to trial in custody. Investigation results also revealed that the man threatened to distribute illegal recordings to his ex-girlfriend the day before the crime.
On the 20th, the dedicated investigation team of the Seoul Southern District Prosecutors' Office (team leader, Chief of Criminal Division 3, Kwon Hyun-yu) announced that Mr. A (32, male) was indicted in custody on charges including retaliatory murder under the Special Act, injury, property damage, assault, confinement, and corpse abandonment, and requested an electronic tracking device attachment order. Through the prosecution’s investigation, Mr. A was also charged with violations of the Special Act on Sexual Violence (illegal filming and distribution using a camera, and threats using recorded materials).
According to the prosecution, Mr. A is accused of stabbing and killing Ms. B, whom he had dated for about a year, at 7:17 a.m. on the 26th of last month, immediately after being reported for dating violence by Ms. B, voluntarily accompanying the police to the local police station, and submitting a written statement. Mr. A stabbed Ms. B with a weapon he had prepared in advance, forcibly put her into a vehicle, and drove around. After Ms. B died, he discarded her cellphone on the roadside and wandered around Paju city before being urgently arrested around 3 p.m. the same day.
After Mr. A was sent to custody, the prosecution conducted supplementary investigations including cellphone forensics and internet search analysis, uncovering evidence that the defendant planned the murder. It was revealed that Mr. A searched the internet for terms such as "murder," "girlfriend assault," and "door lock password lost" before the incident, anticipating the end of his relationship with Ms. B. During this process, it was also discovered that the day before the incident, Mr. A sent Ms. B illegally filmed photos and threatened to distribute them.

The dedicated investigation team stated that they are proceeding with victim support procedures through interviews and investigations with the victim’s family and are currently in the process of providing funeral expenses and family relief funds.
