The Korea-Iraq Joint Committee had been suspended since 2017 due to instability in Iraq but resumed this year after six years. The resumption was triggered by Minister Won's proposal to Iraq to establish a regular cooperation platform between the two countries through the One Team Korea bidding activities.
With the reactivation of the high-level cooperation channel, memorandums of understanding between the two countries are expected to be signed in various fields such as transportation, aviation, and diplomacy. Discussions on the participation of Korean companies in large-scale projects such as Iraq reconstruction and the Bismayah New City project are anticipated, which is expected to have a positive impact on overseas orders.
