5000 World-Class Artworks Unveiled... 'Art Fair Daegu' at EXCO
US Elmi and UK Cozy Exhibits
Works by Sohyeonwoo and Sonpa Draw Attention
‘Art Fair Daegu 2023’ will be held at EXCO for four days from the 22nd to the 25th. Under the slogan "June, I'm going to art shopping," over 100 galleries from Korea and abroad will participate, showcasing more than 5,000 artworks.
Art Fair Daegu 2023 is the first art fair held in Daegu this year and is expected to be an event that gauges the atmosphere of the local art market. Especially this year, not only domestic but also renowned overseas galleries are participating in large numbers. Fifteen galleries leading contemporary art from around the world, including the United States, France, Taiwan, Japan, Switzerland, Belgium, and the Czech Republic, will meet with collectors in Daegu.
Marco Guglielmi Raimotal, an American installation artist who participated in the 2018 Venice Biennale, will present a performance involving direct audience participation at this exhibition.
Visitors can also appreciate works by British artist Alexander Cozier, who creates three-dimensional sculptures using paper cutting techniques on old books, as well as works and performances by Tanzanian artist Hendrick Rilanga, who expresses the bright and joyful aspects of Africa with vivid colors. Additionally, works by internationally renowned artists such as Julian Opie, Alex Katz, Maki Hosokawa, David Goldstein, and Jeff Koons will be on display.
Among domestic artists, visitors can see works by famous artists including Kim Chang-yeol, Lee Ufan, Oh Se-yeol, Lee Geon-yong, Lee Bae, Yoo Young-guk, and Jeon Gwang-young, as well as works by next-generation blue-chip artists such as Han Sang-yoon and Kim Se-han.
A special exhibition will also be held within the exhibition hall. Sculptures by artist Sohn Pa, which critique capitalism and are created from a child's perspective, will be installed throughout the venue. There will also be a special exhibition by Sohn Pa focusing on traditional Korean acupuncture, and an art car special exhibition by Jang Seung-hyo featuring Ferrari automobiles.
In addition, this event will offer various goods including passport cases, USB drives, keyrings, and travel tags produced by Art Fair Daegu, as well as character goods made by specialized merchandise companies. At the promotional booth's wine shop, wine labels featuring photographs of works by participating artists Lee Geon-yong, Ban Mi-ryeong, Lee Dae-hee, and Hendrick Rilanga will be showcased.

An official from Art Fair Daegu stated, "Art Fair Daegu will strive not only to revitalize the local art market but also to present the future direction of the art market and establish itself as an event where world-class artworks gather." The admission fee for Art Fair Daegu 2023 is 15,000 KRW for the general public.
