Yeosu Gwangyang Port Authority Attracts New Shipping Route Connecting Japan and Southeast Asia
New Evergreen Regular Shipping Service Secured in Taiwan
Generating 23,000 TEU of New Annual Volume
Yeosu Gwangyang Port Authority (President Park Seong-hyun, YGPA) announced on the 19th that it has secured a new container shipping route service (KTH: Korea Taiwan Haiphong) connecting Gwangyang with Japan and Southeast Asia.
The new Southeast Asia route service operated by Taiwanese shipping company Evergreen is a weekly service deploying three vessels capable of carrying approximately 2,000 cargo units, transporting goods between Japan, Gwangyang, and Southeast Asia.

The detailed port calls include Hakata (Japan) - Ulsan - Busan - Gwangyang - Qingdao (China) - Kaohsiung (Taiwan) - Taipei (Taiwan) - Haiphong (Vietnam) - Kaohsiung - Taipei - Hakata.
Following the attraction of the CMA-CGM GSX (Guam Saipan Express) service and Heung-A Line BNX (Busan Ningbo Xpress) service earlier this year, YGPA’s acquisition of this new service has expanded Gwangyang Port’s weekly regular container services to 78 sailings, with Southeast Asia port calls increasing to 28.5 sailings.
This service acquisition will provide more convenient transportation services for shippers importing cargo from Japan and exporting cargo to Southeast Asia, and is expected to generate an additional 23,000 TEU of new cargo volume annually.
President Park Seong-hyun stated, “YGPA is committed to customer-first management to enhance convenience for import and export shippers,” adding, “We expect to improve customer satisfaction with Gwangyang Port usage through strengthened route connectivity and stable route service provision via successive new service launches.”
Meanwhile, YGPA is actively conducting ‘carrier-shipper matching marketing’ by providing route information of vessels calling at Gwangyang Port to shippers near the Gwangyang Bay area, collecting information on cargo volumes and desired routes, and sharing stable cargo information and route demand with carriers to attract new port call services, aiming to increase cargo volume and reduce logistics costs for shippers.
