Truck Driver Booked for Causing Death of Professor Joo Seok-jung at Asan Medical Center
A truck driver who fatally struck Professor Joo Seok-jung of Seoul Asan Medical Center has been booked by the police.
On the 19th, the Songpa Police Station in Seoul announced that they have booked a man in his 60s, Mr. A, on charges of causing death by negligence under the Special Act on Traffic Accident Handling.
Mr. A is accused of fatally hitting Professor Joo, who was crossing the crosswalk on a bicycle in front of the Seoul Asan Medical Center Family Town apartment intersection in Pungnap-dong, Songpa-gu, Seoul, at around 1:20 p.m. on the 16th. The accident occurred while Mr. A was making a right turn at the intersection.
It is known that Mr. A did not violate any traffic signals or the obligation to stop when making a right turn. The accident site is a dedicated right-turn lane located between a traffic island and the sidewalk. However, the police applied charges of causing death by negligence under the Special Act on Traffic Accident Handling, considering that Mr. A failed to fulfill his duty of care.
