Kim Young-rok, Governor of Jeollanam-do, attended the founding ceremony of the ‘Gwangju-Jeonnam Kim Dae-jung Foundation’ held at the Kim Dae-jung Convention Center in Gwangju on the 18th, congratulated the establishment of the foundation, and stated, “Jeonnam Province will take the lead in inheriting and developing the spirit of Kim Dae-jung.”
At the founding ceremony, Jeong Gu-seon and Kim Jae-hyung, co-representatives of the Gwangju-Jeonnam Kim Dae-jung Foundation, Kwon No-gap, chairman of the Kim Dae-jung Foundation, former National Assembly Speakers Kim Won-ki, Im Chae-jung, Moon Hee-sang, Jeong Dae-chul, chairman of the Constitutional Association, Kim Hong-gul, vice chairman of the Kim Dae-jung Foundation, and National Assembly member Kim Hong-eop attended.
Governor Kim Young-rok recalled, “Despite numerous hardships and adversities, President Kim Dae-jung, who led democracy and peace on the Korean Peninsula and was the first Korean to receive the Nobel Peace Prize, lived a noble life and embodied the spirit of the era.”
He also emphasized, “In today’s domestic and international economic crises, we need the insight and wisdom of President Kim, who overcame the 1998 International Monetary Fund (IMF) economic crisis,” and urged, “I hope the Gwangju-Jeonnam Kim Dae-jung Foundation will play a greater role in widely promoting the spirit of democracy, peace, and human rights of Kim Dae-jung.”

Meanwhile, Jeollanam-do Province annually promotes commemorative projects such as the Kim Dae-jung Peace Camp to inherit and develop the ‘spirit of Kim Dae-jung.’ Especially this year, to publicize President Kim Dae-jung’s spirit of democracy, peace, and human rights worldwide, it is preparing to hold the ‘Kim Dae-jung Peace Conference’ for three days starting October 4. In 2024, various commemorative projects will be promoted to mark the 100th anniversary of President Kim Dae-jung’s birth.
