New President of Korea GM Appointed: Villarreal, Former GM Mexico Vice President
Korea GM announced on the 16th that Hector Vizcarra, Vice President of Sales and Service for General Motors (GM) Mexico, Central America, and the Caribbean, has been appointed as the new president. He previously worked in Korea for about three years starting in 2012 and will be officially appointed on August 1.
Silpan Amin, President of GM Overseas Operations, said, "The newly appointed President Vizcarra has led regional sales and growth based on his extensive global leadership experience and achievements in developing multi-brand strategies at GM Mexico. This will be a great asset in growing Korea’s export business and market share."
President Vizcarra has worked at GM for about 33 years. At Korea GM, he served as Vice President of Planning and Program Management. He began his career in 1990 as a production project engineer at GM Mexico’s Ramos Arizpe plant and has since worked in Korea, the United States, Uzbekistan, Russia, and Southeast Asia. He majored in mechanical engineering and industrial engineering at Monterrey Institute of Technology in Mexico.
President Amin stated, "I am confident that President Vizcarra will lead Korea’s business to the next level through well-established brand strategies that can strengthen market presence, continuous optimization of the sales network, improved customer experience, and maximizing production of global products." Vizcarra said, "The Korea team has made great progress in transforming the business despite the pandemic and uncertainties in the global automotive industry. The recent success of the Chevrolet Trax crossover is a GM global benchmark case, which will open a new chapter for Korea’s business and continue its success."
Roberto Rempel, the current president of Korea GM, will work until the end of next month and then retire. Rempel said, "It has been a great honor to lead Korea’s business, which plays an important role in GM’s global business strategy. I am confident in the bright future of Korea’s business as it moves to the next stage on the solid foundation we have built together."
