Japanese Prime Minister Thanks Palau President for "Understanding the Safety of Contaminated Water" Statement
Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida expressed his gratitude to Surangel Whipps, President of the Pacific island nation of Palau, who positively evaluated the safety of the contaminated water from the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant, Kyodo News reported on the 14th.
According to the report, during the Japan-Palau summit held at the Prime Minister's Official Residence in Tokyo that day, President Whipps said regarding the Fukushima contaminated water, "I am well aware of the serious efforts being made to ensure safety."
In response to President Whipps' remarks, Prime Minister Kishida stated, "I sincerely appreciate the expression of understanding and trust." He added, "The contaminated water will not be discharged in a way that affects human health or the marine environment."

Before the summit with Prime Minister Kishida, President Whipps visited Fukushima Prefecture to inspect the nuclear power plant and a seafood processing plant. President Whipps also visited Japan in September last year.
