Pohang City has been honored for three consecutive years, receiving the Grand Prize in 2021, the Excellence Award in 2022, and again this year.
Pohang City’s achievements in the agricultural and food export sector are analyzed as the result of strategic and systematic export policies, such as securing export diversity, targeting niche markets, and fostering specialized export complexes.
In particular, in this evaluation, the city was highly praised for ▲discovering and nurturing the nation’s top export items such as summer radish, rice, spinach, and tomatoes ▲expanding differentiated specialized export complexes centered on local specialties ▲and efforts to expand overseas distribution networks to 13 countries, including new markets like the United Kingdom, France, the Netherlands, and Taiwan.
Pohang City is concentrating administrative efforts to expand agricultural product exports and nurture agricultural and specialty product export companies. Especially this year, by actively targeting niche export markets due to poor local rice harvests in the North American region, the city has already exceeded the target quantity of 200 tons in the first half of the year by exporting 220 tons, establishing itself as the largest export local government in the country.
Additionally, the city is strengthening activities to pioneer overseas markets, such as inviting overseas buyers and promoting export sales and publicity. Beyond existing export items like summer radish, napa cabbage, tomatoes, and rice, efforts are underway to designate specialized export complexes for chives, spinach, and watermelon, continuously expanding the export infrastructure. It is expected to achieve exports exceeding 8 billion KRW this year.
