Gang Charged for Scamming 130 Million Won by Promising to Make Victims Win the Lotto
A group that deceived people by promising to make them win the lottery with numbers combined by an analysis program and extorted over 100 million won has been brought to trial.
On the 14th, the 4th Criminal Division of the Incheon District Prosecutors' Office (Chief Prosecutor Kim Hyung-won) announced that they had arrested and indicted A (29), the operator of a lottery number prediction site, and B (26), the sales team leader, on charges of fraud. Additionally, three accomplices, including former site operator C (41), were indicted without detention on the same charges.
A and others are accused of operating a lottery winning number prediction site from August 2020 to May of the following year, embezzling a total of 137 million won from 17 members.
They reassured victims by claiming, "We provide numbers combined by a lottery analysis program and guarantee 1st to 3rd prize winnings according to membership levels," and "If you do not win, we will refund your money."
They also invited victims to an online group chat where site employees pretended to be members, calling it a "VIP management group chat," and deceived them by saying, "There are members who paid 100 million won, upgraded their level, and won the lottery."
