Gyeonggi Office of Education to Achieve Zero Waiting for Elementary Care by Year-End
The Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education aims to achieve 'zero' waiting lists for elementary after-school care by the end of this year.
On the 13th, the Office announced the '2023 Gyeonggi Responsible Care Policy,' which focuses on ▲expanding care hub facilities through cooperation with local governments ▲gradual extension of care hours ▲operation of various care programs based on character education ▲unification and simplification of care tasks through the expansion of after-school and Neulbom Support Center functions.
According to the announced policy, the Office plans to resolve about 84.5% of the elementary after-school care waiting list by mid-year through region- and student-tailored care operations, such as expanding elementary after-school classrooms and extending the EduCare operation period for first graders. By the end of this year, they plan to completely eliminate the waiting list.
The Office also decided to strengthen cooperation and linkage with local governments to expand care capacity and provide customized care. To this end, they will ▲establish a care council between the Office of Education and the provincial government ▲operate care in cooperation with local governments and communities ▲provide region-, school-, and student-tailored care.
Furthermore, through cooperation with local governments, they will expand region-customized care facilities such as center-type facilities for oversized and overcrowded schools and hub-type facilities for old downtown and new town connected areas, as well as operate school-tailored care such as school care centers and Gyeonggi future-type care classrooms.
Additionally, care hours will be gradually extended according to student demand to allow selection of necessary care, including morning care (7 a.m. to 9 a.m.), afternoon care (after school to 5 p.m.), evening care (5 p.m. to 8 p.m.), and gap-time care (during after-school hours).
The Office will also promote qualitative improvements in care by implementing character education-based customized programs, expanding linked operation of after-school programs, and strengthening region-specific programs.
