Yeo "Sing Haiming is in the Oman Sea"... Urges Repatriation to Home Country
Repeated Remarks on 'Designation as a Diplomatic Persona Non Grata' in Meeting
"Anxiety over Declining Influence on the Korean Peninsula"
On the 13th, the People Power Party raised their voices in criticism, calling the recent 'betting remarks' by Xing Haiming, the Chinese Ambassador to South Korea, 'arrogant.' They urged for diplomatic persona non grata designation and repatriation of Ambassador Xing.
Yoon Jae-ok, the floor leader of the People Power Party, stated at the party's floor strategy meeting held at the National Assembly on the same day, "Ambassador Xing's arrogant attitude, including his betting remarks, only revealed anxiety over the decline of China's influence on the Korean Peninsula, rather than demonstrating China's power."

Floor leader Yoon said, "Yesterday, the government and ruling party expressed concerns and regrets over Ambassador Xing's inappropriate remarks through various channels," adding, "However, the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs justified Ambassador Xing's words and actions by repeating their existing stance at the regular briefing that 'engaging with all sectors is Ambassador Xing's duty.'
He continued, "We were in the process of consultations with the Chinese government to resume high-level Korea-China communication recently," and pointed out, "Ambassador Xing's provocation suddenly poured cold water on this atmosphere."
At the meeting, Secretary-General Lee Cheol-gyu also criticized, "If Ambassador Xing continues to act arrogantly, forgetting his responsibilities and roles as a diplomat, we should consider designating him as a diplomatic persona non grata," and urged, "The Chinese government should no longer defend Ambassador Xing but apologize politely. The first step to restoring Korea-China relations starts not with arrogant displays of power but with mutual respect."
Kim Seok-ki, the ruling party's ranking member of the National Assembly's Foreign Affairs and Unification Committee, explained, "Ambassador Xing must realize that his role is to promote friendship, not to interfere in another country's politics, which is a basic fact of diplomacy," and added, "We should actively consider designating him as a diplomatic persona non grata and expelling him. Only then can we start a proper Korea-China relationship based on mutual respect."

On the same day at 11:30 a.m., Jo Kyung-tae, a People Power Party lawmaker, held a press conference at the National Assembly, demanding Ambassador Xing's recall to his home country. Jo said, "According to Article 41 of the Vienna Convention, diplomats must respect the laws of the host country and must not interfere in internal affairs. Ambassador Xing's remarks are a clear violation of the Vienna Convention and are causing serious adverse effects on Korea-China relations," and urged, "The Chinese government should no longer stand by this situation and must immediately proceed with recalling Ambassador Xing to his home country."
