Nation's First Marine Industry Cluster Industrial Facility... Opening Ceremony of 'Busan Knowledge Industry Center Uam Branch'
Second 'Public Rental Type' at 4 PM on the 12th
Construction of a 6-Story Building with a Project Cost of 27.3 Billion Won
On the 12th at 4 p.m., Busan City will hold the opening ceremony of the 'Busan Knowledge Industry Center Uam Branch,' the nation's first industrial facility designated under the 2016 Special Act on the Designation and Promotion of Marine Industry Clusters.
Attending the opening ceremony will be Park Hyung-joon, Mayor of Busan; Oh Eun-taek, Mayor of Nam-gu, Busan; Yoon Jong-ho, Director of the Busan Regional Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Office; Kim Il-ho, Director of the Busan Regional Small and Medium Venture Business Administration; Kang Joon-seok, President of Busan Port Authority; and Park Mi-soon, Chairperson of the Nam-gu Council, Busan, among others, to celebrate the opening.
The 'Marine Industry Cluster' is a system designed to attract companies in the marine industry and related sectors to idle port facilities to create new added value. Busan Port's Uam Pier, completed in 1996, operated as a container-only pier for 19 years before being converted to a general pier in April 2015. Currently, it is in an idle state. The 'Busan Knowledge Industry Center Uam Branch' (hereafter Uam Branch) holds significant meaning as it revitalizes the idle port functions by reorganizing them.
The Uam Branch, opening on this day, was constructed with a total project cost of 27.3 billion KRW invested by Busan City and the Ministry of SMEs and Startups. It has a total floor area of 9,306㎡ and six above-ground floors. It includes 40 rental units and welfare facilities to support companies such as a cargo handling area, parking lot, lounge, meeting rooms, and fitness center to generate synergistic effects from the concentration and convergence of marine industries, supporting regional economic revitalization and job creation.
Construction began in December 2020, and the registration for the establishment of the knowledge industry center was completed in April this year. Tenant companies are currently being recruited.
The Uam Branch is recruiting companies in marine new industries, marine shipbuilding equipment, and marine plant-related sectors, prioritizing those that are not facilities emitting environmentally harmful substances such as wastewater. Support plans include forming tenant company networks and hosting exchange events.
According to the 'Busan Marine Industry Survey Statistics (2020),' among 26,408 marine industry-related businesses (with 144,900 employees) in the Busan area, 54% are located near the Uam Pier area (Nam, Dong, Seo, Jung, and Yeongdo districts).
Accordingly, the city expects the Uam Branch to serve as the hub of the 'Uam Pier Marine Industry Cluster (Cooperative Complex),' contributing to job creation and regional economic revitalization centered on marine new industries such as marine plant engineering, eco-friendly ships, advanced marine equipment, marine energy, marine bio, and marine healing ecotourism.
The 'Busan City Public Rental Knowledge Industry Centers' include the 'Geumgok Branch' (6 floors, 68 units), specialized in advanced manufacturing and R&D, which has been operating since 2017, and the 'Uam Branch' (6 floors, 40 units), which is the second to open, specializing in marine industries.
Additionally, the 'Eco Delta City Branch' (5 floors, 35 units), specializing in intelligent city (smart city) sectors, is scheduled to begin construction in December this year.
