‘Visiting Human Rights Meetings’ Held for Social Welfare Facilities and Civil Society Organizations
Discovering Human Rights Issues in the Local Community and Gathering Opinions on Human Rights Promotion Measures
Plan to Establish the ‘Geumcheon-gu Human Rights Network’ in September
Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yu Seong-hoon) held ‘Visiting Human Rights Meetings’ targeting 10 social welfare facilities and private organizations within the district.
The ‘Visiting Human Rights Meetings’ are sessions where the Civil Complaints and Audit Officer directly visits institutions and organizations to discuss and gather opinions on human rights issues by sector, aiming to explore measures to promote human rights at the community level.
This ‘Visiting Human Rights Meetings’ initiative was planned to more actively identify and respond to human rights issues in the community after Geumcheon-gu received the Korea Human Rights Award in 2020. During May, meetings were held with 10 key institutions in the area, and the meetings will continue through June and July.
At the meetings, the Civil Complaints and Audit Officer emphasized the flow and importance of human rights policies, stating, “New human rights challenges such as the climate crisis and the right to information access are emerging.” Then, they discussed sector-specific human rights surveys and monitoring topics needed in the community and jointly explored ways to promote the human rights of Geumcheon-gu residents.
Based on the opinions gathered through the human rights meetings, Geumcheon-gu plans to establish the ‘Geumcheon-gu Human Rights Network’ in September. Centered on this network, the district will promote human rights surveys, monitoring, and education necessary for the community to spread a culture of human rights.
