Ottogi, Bringing Regional Flavors in a Bowl with 'Local-style Tang, Guk, and Jjigae'
Ottogi is strengthening its lineup of regional soup dishes, ‘Regional-style Tang, Guk, and Jjigae,’ highlighting the unique flavors of each area, thereby enhancing its competitiveness in the home meal replacement (HMR) market.
Ottogi opened the domestic HMR market in 1981 with ‘3-Minute Curry’ and played a catalyst role in expanding the consumption of convenience foods by introducing ‘Old-fashioned Beef Bone Soup’ and various types of tang. Since then, through the development of diverse menus, it has expanded into instant rice, frozen rice, cup rice, and more. The regional-style tang, guk, and jjigae launched in 2019 have gained popularity for allowing consumers to easily enjoy regional soup dishes at home.
The regional-style tang, guk, and jjigae lineup currently consists of a total of 13 varieties: ▲5 types of tang (including Jongno-style Ox Knee Soup, Naju-style Beef Bone Soup), ▲5 types of guk (including Andong-style Beef Soup with Rice, Daegu-style Spicy Beef Soup), and ▲3 types of jjigae (including Mapo-style Beef Brisket Doenjang Jjigae, Cheongju-style Pork Kimchi Jjageuli).
Among the two varieties introduced last year, ‘Sancheong-style Snail Doenjang Soup’ and ‘Cheongju-style Pork Kimchi Jjageuli,’ the Sancheong-style Snail Doenjang Soup is characterized by its chewy texture and savory taste, made with carefully selected snails from Jirisan Sancheong, a region known for its pristine environment. It features a rich doenjang broth with domestic radish greens, snails, and young cabbage, offering a refreshing and mild flavor.
The ‘Cheongju-style Pork Kimchi Jjageuli’ is distinguished by its rich and spicy broth, made by simmering domestic pork rib meat and aged kimchi until tender. It faithfully recreates the taste of the Chungcheong-do local dish ‘Jjageuli.’ To enhance the texture, the content of kimchi and pork has been increased, making it versatile to enjoy as a stew, side dish, or anju (food served with alcohol).
