Through this partnership, LG AI Research Institute will verify the commercial technology of generative AI based on the ultra-large AI EXAONE using FuriosaAI's second-generation AI semiconductor Renegade currently under development. FuriosaAI plans to incorporate LG AI Research Institute’s evaluation and feedback throughout the entire process of design, development, and mass production to develop optimized AI semiconductors capable of stably running ultra-large AI models.

Neural Processing Units (NPUs), known as AI semiconductors, can process data faster and more efficiently than Central Processing Units (CPUs) and Graphics Processing Units (GPUs), and their inference performance is also higher, which is expected to bring innovation to the AI field.

To establish a close cooperation system, Woo-Hyung Lim, Head of the Applied AI Research Group (Senior Executive Director) at LG AI Research Institute, who leads the development of AI models applicable to actual industrial sites, will be responsible for joint research and business model discovery with FuriosaAI.

Junho Baek, CEO of FuriosaAI, said, "We will elevate the competitiveness of AI semiconductor and generative AI technologies to a world-class level through cooperation with LG AI Research Institute," adding, "The two companies share a vision to create AI that benefits humanity and will strive to lay the foundation for a self-sustaining AI technology ecosystem."

Meanwhile, FuriosaAI plans to mass-produce the second-generation AI chip Renegade in the first half of next year.
