Special Forces Comrades Association Visits 5·18 Memorial Park Remembrance and Healing Space on the 3rd
The Special Forces Veterans Association will pay tribute at the Memorial Sublimation Park located within the 5·18 Memorial Park in Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City on the 3rd.
The 5·18 Democratic Movement Injured Persons Association, a public interest corporation, announced that members of the Special Forces Veterans Association will visit the Memorial Sublimation Park around 10:30 a.m. on the 3rd to directly verify the list of 5·18 merit recipients.
Through this, they plan to block distorted history and rumors such as the 'disclosure of the merit recipient list' and the 'fake merit recipient theory,' and to inform the Special Forces Veterans members about the true nature of the 5·18 Movement.
After paying respects and laying flowers, the Special Forces Veterans members will move to the Daedong Hall of the Seo-gu 5·18 Memorial Foundation to hear stories about May 1980 from the families of the 5·18 victims.
Following this, the Special Forces Veterans Association plans to issue a statement regarding the 5·18 Movement, which has been distorted and disparaged by some far-right groups.
The Injured Persons Association and the Special Forces Veterans Association expressed their determination not to cancel this tribute.
A representative of the Injured Persons Association said, "We thought it was not right to cause conflicts and clashes with civic groups during the 5·18 memorial period, so we had canceled before. This time, the tribute will be conducted as one event from the Memorial Sublimation Park to Daedong Hall, followed by a visit to the 5·18 Democratic Cemetery as individuals rather than as an organization."
