Busan Office of Education Conducts Street Campaign to Prevent Smoking, Drinking, and Drug Abuse
The Busan Metropolitan Office of Education conducted a street campaign to promote healthy growth among youth free from smoking, drinking, and drugs.
On the 31st at 4 p.m., in observance of World No Tobacco Day, the Busan Office of Education held a street campaign with related organizations at locations such as Seomyeon Nori Maru, Jeonpo Cafe Street, and the Youth Street near Lotte Department Store to prevent smoking, drinking, and drug use among students, the office announced on the 1st.
This campaign, under the slogan "For your dreams and future, never use harmful substances," aimed to raise awareness among students and citizens about the harms of smoking, drinking, and drugs and the necessity of prevention. It was conducted based on the judgment that improving public awareness in Busan is essential for the healthy growth of youth.
About 250 participants took part in the campaign, including officials from the Metropolitan Office of Education, five education support offices, a smoking prevention policy proposal club, Dongsung High School and 13 other schools, Busan City Hall, Busan Police Agency, National Health Insurance Service, Busan Smoking Cessation Support Center, Busan Drug Eradication Movement Headquarters, Parent Association, Youth Union, and the Youth Crime Prevention Council.

View original imageThe campaign was conducted simultaneously across Busan, with the Busan Office of Education and the five education support offices holding campaigns in central locations of each region.
Participants focused on preventive activities against various harmful substances, including drug-laced beverages recently found among teenagers in academy districts. They also actively urged convenience stores and other retailers not to sell alcohol or cigarettes to minors.
Ha Yun-su, Superintendent of Busan Metropolitan Office of Education, stated, “To block harmful substances such as smoking, drinking, and drugs among students, active cooperation from not only the education office and schools but also the local community is essential.”
He added, “Going forward, our education office will do its best to create safer schools free from harmful substances through continuous cooperation with related organizations.”
