Korea-ASEAN Discuss Startup Roadmap and Partnerships in Collaborative Meeting
Review of Startup Policy Roadmap Established Last Year
7th Policy Dialogue Held in Bangkok
On the 25th, the Ministry of SMEs and Startups held the 7th Korea-ASEAN Startup Policy Dialogue with the ASEAN SME Coordinating Committee (ASEAN SME Coordination Committee) in Bangkok, Thailand. The Ministry and the ASEAN SME Coordination Committee are consultative bodies discussing the creation of a sustainable and inclusive ASEAN startup ecosystem. The ASEAN SME Coordination Committee is composed of high-level officials from ministries of the 10 ASEAN countries.
At this 7th policy dialogue, discussions focused on the progress of the nine key implementation plans of the Korea-ASEAN Startup Policy Roadmap completed last year, as well as other cooperative projects. In the first half of this year, a Korea-ASEAN startup IR was conducted, fulfilling six of the nine key implementation plans. The remaining three projects are planned to be carried out by 2024, the partnership period, after undergoing the Korea-ASEAN cooperation fund review process.

Minister Lee Young of the Ministry of SMEs and Startups stated, “The vast market size and abundant natural resources of ASEAN, combined with Korea’s innovative technology and mature venture and startup ecosystem, raise expectations for active exchanges among startups in the Korea-ASEAN region.” He added, “The Ministry of SMEs and Startups will strive to ensure that the startup partnership between the two regions, now in its fourth year, continues.”
