View original imageGyeonggi Province will conduct intensive crackdowns on illegal activities in rivers and valleys in collaboration with city and county governments during the peak summer months of July and August to ensure sustainable clean valleys.
This is to prevent the recurrence of illegal activities as the number of tourists visiting rivers and valleys in the province is expected to increase this summer due to the COVID-19 endemic.
This year, the main inspection targets are 140 local rivers and valleys in 24 cities and counties, including Baegun Valley in Pocheon-si, Jojongcheon in Gapyeong-gun, and Jangheung Valley in Yangju-si, where illegal activities have been frequent.
The key crackdown targets include ▲illegal dumping and abandonment of garbage and waste ▲unauthorized installation of illegal facilities ▲illegal business activities.
From 2019 to 2022, Gyeonggi Province detected 12,190 illegal facilities in rivers and valleys and completed the removal of 12,177 of them.
Gyeonggi Province will operate a dedicated inspection system for rivers and valleys, activating a thorough illegal activity monitoring network not only on weekdays but also on weekends and holidays. A total of 10 inspection teams will include officials from Gyeonggi Province and city and county governments, as well as river and valley guardians.
