World No. 2 Nelly Korda (USA) has been sidelined by a back injury.
On the 23rd (local time), Korda announced through her social media (SNS), "Following medical advice, I have decided not to participate in the Mizuho Classic due to back pain," adding, "I will return fully recovered to finish the season safely." Korda lost her No. 1 spot in the women's golf weekly world rankings announced on the 23rd to winner Ko Jin-young after missing the cut at the Founders Cup, which ended on the 15th.
Korda was scheduled to skip the Bank of Hope Match Play starting on the 24th and participate in the Mizuho Classic beginning on the 2nd of next month. Korda has a history of back injuries, having withdrawn during the first round of the KPMG Women's PGA Championship in August 2020 and taking a break until the US Open in December of that year. Last year, she was diagnosed with thrombosis and was unable to compete from March to June. This season, Korda has played in eight tournaments, finishing in the top 10 six times. Her best result this year was runner-up at the HSBC Women's World Championship in March. She currently ranks 3rd in the money list ($823,074), 2nd in scoring average (69.20), and 3rd in Player of the Year points (53 points).
