Second Generation Founder of Muhak Group, Public Official, Indicted on Bribery Charges
The prosecution, through persistent investigation, has indicted Choi, the second-generation founder of Muhak Group in Gyeongnam and the CEO of a golf course operating company, without detention on charges of bribing a tax official.
According to the prosecution on the 24th, the Anti-Corruption Investigation Division of the Busan District Prosecutors' Office (Chief Prosecutor Park Hyun-gyu) recently indicted five people, including Choi, on charges of exchanging bribes in return for corporate tax reductions for the golf club company and inheritance tax reductions for its representative, Choi.
Choi is accused of conspiring with a director of an accounting firm during a tax audit around September last year to give 20 million won in cash and a golf club set worth 3.6 million won to a local National Tax Service officer as a bribe in exchange for corporate tax reductions and tax conveniences.
The prosecution secured multiple pieces of evidence, including mobile forensics and closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage capturing the scenes of giving golf clubs and bribes. The accounting firm director who conspired with Choi to give bribes and the National Tax Service officer who received the bribes were indicted under detention.
