Yongin City Expands Citizens' Humanities Literacy... Special Lecture with Kyung Hee University
Yongin City is partnering with Kyung Hee University to hold a humanities special lecture in May.
View original imageYongin City in Gyeonggi Province is conducting an online humanities special lecture titled 'In-depth Reading of Foreign Literature' in collaboration with Kyung Hee University's Institute of International Area Studies.
This special lecture series is a humanities course that offers a glimpse into different languages and cultures through foreign literary works selected by professors from Kyung Hee University's College of Foreign Languages.
The four sessions related to Japanese, French, and Spanish literature will all be held at 7 PM on the scheduled days via the online video conferencing app Zoom.
On the 23rd, Professor Changsoo Lee from the Department of Japanese Language will explain the diversity of Japanese culture embedded in works ranging from the classic "Kojiki" to the film "Suzume no Tojimari," under the theme "The Transformability of Japanese Culture through Kojiki Mythology."
On the 24th, Professor Jeongsook Oh from the Department of French Language will conduct an in-depth reading lecture on 19th-century French Romantic novels, focusing on "Notre-Dame de Paris," and on the 30th, Professor Suhyun Hwang from the Department of Spanish Language will continue the lecture series with the theme "Why Are Latin American Novels Marvelous and Fantastic?"
On the 31st, HK Research Professor Seokhee Kim will give a lecture on contemporary Japanese literature titled "Can Humanity Survive? : The World of Tomoyuki Hoshino's Works and the Specificity and Universality of Foreign Literature."
Those wishing to attend can apply in advance through the bulletin board on the Yongin City Library website and will receive the access link via text message.

A Yongin City official stated, "There was a request for humanities special lectures from library users, so we prepared the course in collaboration with local universities," expressing expectations that "it will be a high-quality lecture that is not easily accessible."
