Musk Targets Twitter... "Zuckerberg to Launch New SNS"
Combining the Strengths of Twitter and Instagram
Enabling Sharing of 500-Character Texts and 5-Minute Videos
Meta Platforms (Meta), the parent company of Facebook, is expected to launch a new text-based social networking service (SNS) next month.
On the 19th (local time), Lia Haberman, a professor of Social and Influencer Marketing at UCLA in California, cited creators in a newsletter saying, "Meta may unveil a new SNS at the end of June."
Professor Haberman stated, "Meta is currently secretly sharing details about the new app with some creators and celebrities." However, it is reported that no one has yet used a beta version of the app.
Professor Haberman also posted an image believed to be of the new SNS app.
Some local media analyzed that Meta's new SNS appears to be text-based and combines features of Instagram and Twitter.
Accordingly, there is an analysis that the new SNS is aimed at Twitter. This is because after Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, acquired Twitter, many celebrities left the platform due to concerns over hate speech and fake news flooding the site.
Professor Haberman explained, "This SNS allows posts of up to 500 characters and supports photos as well as videos up to 5 minutes long. It is also compatible with other apps, and users can log in using their existing Instagram account username and password."
Earlier, a media outlet reported that the development of this SNS is underway under the codename 'P92,' led by Adam Mosseri, CEO of Instagram. Another media source also conveyed similar news to Professor Haberman’s, stating that the new SNS is being tested with creators and celebrities, suggesting its launch is imminent.
Meanwhile, Meta stated in March, "We are researching decentralized and independent social networking services to share text updates."
